Ray Franz, Republican state legislator from Northern Michigan, presents his take on renewable energy after a screening of the movie “Windfall,” in Frankfort in January. Representative Franz spoke at an event organized by Citizens for Responsible Wind Development regarding a proposal by Duke Energy to erect 112 wind turbines in Benzie and Manistee counties. Duke Energy, a Fortune 500 company, is proposing more than 100 industrial-sized wind turbines in rural Northern Michigan. Many local citizens are excited about the economic boost the wind farm would present, and it would also help Michigan continue to reduce its dependence on polluting fossil fuels. Some citizens, however, are concerned about property values and purported negative impacts on human health. The Michigan Land Use Institute asked Duke energy about some of the common complaints about wind turbines, and which were contained in an anti-wind movie called “Windfall.”
